Dorset Underwater
This summer I finally restarted the initiative I dreamt of whilst working a night shift at Poole Hospital back in September 2018 to showcase the beauty of Dorset above and beneath the waves. I'd only managed two destinations, Durdle Door and Kimmeridge before the fear of cold winter waters kicked in and of course life. Finally, I've overcome my fear of colder water and last summer, after being injured on the NHS Frontline as Bank Staff, needed to do something to take my mind away from my injuries and see if I could manage my arthritis.
Dorset Underwater is a voluntary initiative aiming to inspire people to learn about, explore and help to protect the rich marine life and hidden landscapes beneath Dorset's incredible coastline. Through underwater photography, filmmaking, storytelling and community engagement, this project reveals the beauty, fragility and importance of Dorset's marine environment - encouraging lovers of Dorset to connect with, cherish and protect the sea around us as well as celebrate the extraordinary coastal ecosystem which makes Dorset unique.
I am also volunteering to monitor a seagrass area in Swanage which has recently been featured in the Bournemouth and Dorset Echo as well as the Swanage & Purbeck Advertiser. More about this can be read here.
