It was so lovely to help Tash this week to help develop her snorkelling skills. We spent the morning in the studio going through theory and snorkelling techniques as well as trying on snorkelling equipment by Mares - Just Add Water to make sure that it fitted comfortably. Then it was time to head off to the pier to practice.
We started off slowly practicing techniques with the buoy, making sure that she felt comfortable with her mask and breathing through the snorkel. We then practiced fin techniques, making sure that she was safe with both in the shallow water before heading off to the pier to see if she could overcome her fear of deeper water. Swanage Pier is only 2 metres deep and Tash overcame her fears brilliantly.
I showed her different marine life species, we saw two kinds of crabs, sea squirts, beautiful sponges adorning the pier legs, shannies, shrimps, snakelock anemones and beadlet anemones.
She absolutely loved it and so did I watching her develop from a nervous newbie into a confident snorkeller in just a few hours.
