This year’s Oceans Day has never been more important after Sir David Attenborough’s recent film “Oceans” portraying the need to come together to protect our seas more than ever. From seeing a sealion with fishing rope around it’s neck back in 2004, my crazy dream and passion is still as strong as ever to help raise awareness and positive changes that we all can make to learn about the incredible worldwide marine conservation organisations that work tirelessly to create change.
There’s so much we already know about how to help our seas, from reusing bottles to bags and picking up litter, but did you know that as well as fishing entanglements, “Flying Rings” can create so much damage to our marine life.

With the large number of seals that are seen around our Dorset Coast, (did you know that each one has a unique fur pattern which can be reported to sightings@cornwallsealgroup.co.uk)
I really hope that you can help to spread the word as to just how dangerous these £1 toys are, causing hugely damaging impacts to our seals and many agonising fatalities. The cost for rescuing just ONE seal and then looking after them at a rehab centre can cost up to £15,000.
Flying rings are often lost or discarded on our beaches, and with seals being so inquisitive, they get caught in them and can’t escape, unless they can be caught (tiny chance) and helped by the incredible team of British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
Can you help and maybe dissuade your local store from selling them and sell a seal safe biodegradable solid disc instead? Or by signing the petition that the UK Seal Alliance has created. By coming together, we can be the first country in the world to seal the deal to keep our shores so much safer. Simply click on the link below to help.

One small ripple of change really can turn into a Big Wave of Achievement for our seas. Don’t forget to share your stories with me, I'd love to hear them!
