The day started with the most incredible sunrise to capture here in Swanage and Carolyn was super excited at learning how to make the most of her Olympus TG7. We went through the essentials of setting up her camera for success, exploring ISOs, Apertures and Shutter Speeds, plus the use and benefits of adding-on wide-angle lenses, lights and strobes.

She loved exploring and playing with an external housing and all of the different lenses and lighting options that are available here, from creative lighting effects using a MARES torch to using a strobe for the first time.  She quickly got to grips with the Backscatter Mini-Flash 2 and the creative effects it gave when capturing the studio's pet whale shark and also learnt about the different filter and snoot options too.

I tailor-made the course for her as a snorkeller and we covered extensive composition techniques using her camera here in the UK as well as overseas.

The lighting was turned down in the studio so that different lighting techniques could be practiced to show the full effect of how both torches and strobes help to bring out vibrant lush colours and textures.

The six hour course flew by and was full of fun, giggles and lots of learning.  Carolyn was granted a bursury for this project and is an incredible artist.  Please visit her work on her Instagram page @carolynlefley to see her journey.
